Dear Diary…

Dear Diary,

It’s been a long time since I wrote you, so my apologies.  Lots going on.  I know, excuses, excuses.

I’m writing today just to have a record of everything that’s been going on in the world and to get out some of my thoughts that I can’t seem to shake.

Jenna and I had the good fortune of hanging out with Massad Ayoob and helping out on the range at a MAG-40 class this weekend.  Mas is one of the giants, he and Gail Pepin are truly good people, and I always learn so much.  My eyes are always opened to how much I don’t know.

But I can’t shake the feeling that world events could make all our training relevant.  Soon.

The world, it is a-changin’.  A couple days ago, 5 police officers were gunned down in Dallas by a man who claimed he was interested in “killing white people, killing white officers.”

This movement calling itself “Black Lives Matter” appears, at least tangentially, behind the attack.  From another story, “Authorities are now investigating whether the Dallas gunman was directed by groups such as the African American Defense League or the New Black Panther Party or merely emboldened by them.”

None of this seems to be going away.  Our President has no idea what this killer’s motivation was.  Up is down and down is up.

As a family, we recently read the Declaration of Independence and this phrase sticks in my head: “We hold these truths to be self-evident.”  Self-evident.  It’s so obvious that everyone can see it.  It’s evident all by itself.

Why does it seem that so many people are hell-bent on convincing us that those things which are self-evident are lies?  Why do I feel like all this stuff is blatantly obvious and clear as day, yet our politicians and our media tells us otherwise?

Mere hours before the Dallas attack, Louis Farrakhan renewed his calls for violence against white people… and somehow remains a citizen in good standing.  “When you are willing and not afraid anymore to pay the price for freedom — don’t let this white man tell you that violence is wrong,” Farrakhan said. “Every damn thing that he got, he got it by being violent — killing people, raping and robbing and murdering. He’s doing it as we speak, and then he has the nerve to come and tell us that violence and hatred won’t get it. Don’t buy that!”

Story after story of criminals caught say they’re telling us something bigger is coming.

So we have that going for us.

It appears there have been other events around the country recently where people have tried to kill police officers, like this one in Georgia.

Why, God?

We have Hillary Clinton leading in the polls against one of her largest donors, Trumpy Cat, despite being “extremely careless” with classified information.  “Certainly, she should have known not to send classified information,” Comey said. “As I said, that’s the definition of ‘negligent.’ I think she was extremely careless, I think she was negligent. That I could establish.”

California is going to start confiscating >10 round magazines and possession of a handgun with a threaded barrel will make you a felon for life.

Murdering babies is totally cool, and the US Supreme Court even struck down some limitations Texas had placed on abortion facilities.

Four current sitting SCOTUS judges have ruled that there is no individual right to keep and bear arms.  Twice.

Osama bin Laden’s son is vowing revenge against the US.  And yet this administration won’t even utter the words “radical Islam.”

I’m starting to hear Hillary Clinton ads here locally in Colorado.  They make me want to stab myself in the eyeball with a #2 pencil.  [aside: Jenna and I watched “13 Hours” again recently – every American should see that movie]

The media seems to be wrong on 100% of the violence stories they’re feeding us anymore – from George Zimmerman to Michael Brown, to Baltimore (the corrupt DA is getting sued now), to Louisiana

Some vocal and insane citizens of my community first tried arguing that if we allow open carry that blood will literally run down the streets, then shifted to saving bubonic plague-carrying prairie dogs, and now are trying to recall a couple of the town council members (you know, the ones who understand liberty).

One of the guns that our government ran to Mexico as part of Fast and Furious ended up in the Paris terror attacks in 2015.  You can’t make this stuff up.

It seems like every single government agency has their own SWAT team anymore.  I think even the guys using $3 million of our hard-earned dollars learning to play World of Warcraft have their own SWAT team.

Please, Lord, make this stop.  Things are spinning out of control.

I can’t even really process all this anymore.  Everyday, something else pops up and all I can think is “that’s truly unbelievable.”  And then my next thought is: “You keep using that word.  I do not think it means what you think it means.”

Every day is more of the feeling that the walls are closing in around us.  Hopefully, I’m just being crazy.  Hopefully 6 months or a year or 10 years from now, I can look back on this article and laugh.  Hopefully.

Until then, I’ll try and keep one eye on the news, if for no other reason than to test my definition of “inconceivable.”  Carry on, Colorado!
